Labubu is a brand of collectible plush monster elves created by Hong Kong designer Kassing Lung, and marketed and sold exclusively by China-based retailer Pop Mart. Labubu is also the name of the main character in the series. Labubu was originally a character created by Kassing Lung, a Hong Kong-born artist who grew up in the Netherlands. Labubu was part of Lung’s “Monsters” series of stories, influenced by the Nordic folklore and mythology he enjoyed as a child. Labubu was first introduced in 2015 with the “Monsters” figurines produced by How2Work. The toy gained wider recognition in 2019 after a collaboration with Pop Mart. This partnership contributed to Labubu’s popularity among collectors.
